Steven Syva, Sr.

Steven Syva, Sr., age 98, of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 24, 1917, Steven was a son of the late Michal and Tekla (Newrocka) Syva. He made his career as a tool and dye hammersmith with DELSTEEL, Inc. in Wilmington, retiring in 1983 after 43 years of dedicated service.

Steven enjoyed gardening, feeding his birds and squirrels (especially Charlie), watching t.v. gameshows, and reading his newspaper every day. He was a dedicated husband and father, and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. Steven was always there to lend a hand to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lillian E. (Costin) Syva; sons, Howard Syva and Steven Syva, Jr.; grandson, Timothy Syva; siblings, Victor, Anthony, John, Walter, and Francis Syva, and Rose Piante.

He is survived by his son, John R. Syva (Beverly) of New Castle, DE; daughter, Lillian G. Hicks (Arnold) of Middletown, DE; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
