Theresa Balascio, age 85, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
Theresa was born in Wilmington, Delaware on May 26, 1928, and was the daughter of the late James O’Neill and Barbara Regenauer O’Neill. A talented homemaker, Theresa devoted her life to caring for her family.
She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church for over 60 years and was a 50 year member of the City All Star Bowling League. Theresa gave of her time and talents as a 20 year volunteer with Meals on Wheels. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting and loved watching live stage shows. Theresa was an excellent cook who delighted in baking Christmas cookies with friends and family. Above all else, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be dearly missed.
During her illness, Theresa was lovingly cared for at her home by her precious niece, Joan Phillips, and her daughter, Terry. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for the excellent care that was provided to Theresa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert C. Balascio, who died in 1996; sister, Mildred Whiteside; and brother, James O’Neill. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa “Terry” Balascio; brother, Charles O’Neill; sisters, Marie Wingate and Elizabeth “Lib” McCloskey; many nieces and nephews; a host of extended family members; and her canine companion, Daisy.
Friends may call from 4 pm until 6 pm on Sunday, October 27, 2013, and again from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Monday, October 28, 2013, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Fifth and Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805 or to St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church Organ Restoration Fund, at the address listed above.
