Helen Marie (Nally) Hughes
January 3, 1920 - July 15, 2021
Helen Marie (Nally) Hughes, age 101, of Kennett Square, PA passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 3, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Gallagher) Nally. Helen was a talented homemaker, who dedicated many years to caring for her family.
She traveled the world with her husband as a military wife for 21 years. A devout Catholic, Helen was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Newark, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Altar Society and most recently attended St. Patrick Church in Kennett Square, PA. Active in her community, she served as a committee woman for the Democratic Party for 21 years.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph V. Hughes, Sr; son, Joseph V. Hughes, Jr; daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Symes; 6 sisters; and 3 brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Wentz (Tom) of Mequon, WI; son, Michael P. Hughes of Avondale, PA; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 5 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 5 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery.
