Edward J. “Smokey” Pucylowski
Edward J. “Smokey” Pucylowski, of Wilmington, DE, and formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, March 21, 2022.
Born in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late John Pucylowski and Caroline (Trush) Heim. Edward proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, including the Asian Pacific War on the USS Ballard. Smokey made his career as a millwright for the Local No. 1545 retiring after 55 years.
Smokey remained active in his community, as a Member-at-Large of the VFW #3257, the American Legion Stahl Post #30, and the National Association of Destroyer Veterans Tin Can Sailors. Deep in his faith, he was a devout member at Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he worshipped.
In addition to his parents, Smokey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice M. (Josefson) Pucylowski; son, Edward Pucylowski; siblings, Irene Mattie, Arlene Virden; granddaughter, Jenna Lucas; and son-in-law, Matt Wright. He is survived by his children, John Pucylowski (Debbie), Sharon Erace (Joe), Francis Pucylowski, and Renee Wright; brother, John Shiner (Isabella); dear friend Peggy Giusti; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Smokey’s memory to Holy Spirit Catholic Church at the above address.

I remember the last time I spoke with Smokey. It was around 2005-6 when I was back in Delaware visiting my brother and his family. It was at Delaware Park. Go figure!! Rest In Peace my friend. I will always remember the good times we had at Stahl Post.
