Phyllis A. Gordy

March 10, 1952 - May 20, 2022

Phyllis A. Gordy, who was also lovingly referred to as “Hamburg” by her oldest daughter, departed her loving family on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the age of 70.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on March 10, 1952, she was a daughter of the late John C. Reynolds and Alta Reynolds Subach. She attended William Penn High School, where she eventually met the love of her life Donald Gordy.

She was a mother to 2 daughters, Dianell Gordy-Thomas and Jennifer Gordy, and 1 son, Lester John Gordy who passed away during birth. She raised her children with undeniable love and devotion in California along with her late husband, Donald C. Gordy. While in California, Phyllis was the owner of two in home child care centers which allowed her to be home with her children and to touch the lives of many others.

Her favorite quote to say was “God’s got me” and this we truly believe. She is finally at peace.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Gordy; and sister, Patricia Harvey. She is survived by her daughters, Dianell Gordy-Thomas and Jennifer Gordy; brother, Ron Reynolds; sisters, Nancy Coulbourne, and Jackie Epperson; extended family, Raymond Lovett; grandchildren, Justin and Johnathan Thomas, Ananda and Nina Hite; great grandson, Santana Thomas; along with 6 nephews, Larry Epperson Jr, Charles Epperson, Bobby Paxson, Michael Coulbourne, John Harvey, and Thomas (Bucky) Smith; and a host of surrogate family and close friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

  • Phyllis was an amazing woman. Her and Donald and their two amazing daughters opened up their home to me as a teen. They fed me, gave me work, and showed me what a family is supposed to be. Donald and Phyllis alike always had kind words and any advice my tiny teenage mind could sit through. They are both gonna be Truly missed.

  • Auntie Phyllis, I love you very much and am sorry to see you go but know that you stayed as long as you could, no more suffering, no more pain. It’s your time to be with your son and Uncle Donny. Till we meet again 🙏🏾 Mary 💕

  • It’s so difficult to say goodbye to the people that we love. But the Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
May the Lord watch, between me and thee. While we are absent, one from another. In Jesus’s name,
    Amen.
