Colleen Margaret Lawless
Died December 2, 2022
On Friday, December 2, 2022, Colleen Margaret Lawless, cherished sister, aunt and friend, passed away from cancer. She was 48. Daughter of the late Edward N. and Margaret (McGilley) Lawless, Colleen was a graduate of Pinelands Regional High School, Spring Hill College and Delaware State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Special Education. Ms. Lawless was an educator to the youth of America for 20 years at Lake Forest High School in Delaware.
Colleen was an active karaoke singer while partaking in a favorite beverage of Miller Lite, diet cokes and crushes. She was perpetually late to everything, drove like an 85-year-old man, arriving in preferred shorts, sundresses & flip flops even in winter, refusing socks. She was an active member of a book club where she rarely finished the books, always up for a 5K and never complained when left behind. She loved Adam Sandler movies, even the ones that sucked, her beloved Flyers & Eagles and never missed a good NASCAR tailgate party. Her greatest passion was the environment, her ocean and love of animals. She has truly touched so many lives, eternally joyful only seeing the good and you were blessed if in her sphere of influence.
Colleen was preceded in death by Maureen (Mo) Lawless. She is survived by Kelly (Lawless) Burkhard, Denise Lawless, Rosemary Lawless, Brendan-Michael Burkhard, Hannah Burkhard, Erin Spindle, Kayla Paul, Caroline Paul, Truman Spindle and sweet Shadow the stray cat.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Cape Henlopen State Park, Main Beach Pavilion, 15099 Cape Henlopen Drive, Lewes, DE. Flip flops mandatory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Colleen’s memory to the MERR Institute, Rescue for Sea Life, 801 Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE 19958 or online by clicking here. And/or Maureen ‘Mo’ Lawless Scholarship, Pinelands Regional High School Scholarship Committee, 565 Nugentown Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.

I’m so incredibly sorry that you have experienced this great loss. I was only able to meet the younger Colleen, and reading these words gave me a glimpse in to her as an adult, and it made me smile. She most surely made an impact in this world and for sure in her family. Thanks for providing the information about the places to contribute. I will certainly do so in her honor.
