Mrs. Florence Schaub Callahan

Mrs. Florence Schaub Callahan, age 83, of Newark, DE, died on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Millcroft Living.
Florence was born on January 11, 1940 to the late Louis and Florence Schaub in Haddonfield, NJ, where Florence grew up. She attended Linden Hall Junior College, graduated from Temple University, and completed graduate work at the University of Delaware. Florence taught elementary school in Barrington, NJ and in the Christina School District in Delaware. She was also a substitute teacher and classroom volunteer. Florence’s faith, family, and friends were the most treasured parts of her life.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Callahan, in 2009. She is survived by her brother Louis, of Gainesville, FL; sons, Joseph, Craig (Kristie), and Robert (Susan); and grandchildren, Heather, Brett, Maya, and Aiden.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Spicer Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered, following the visitation, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713. Interment will be held privately at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florrie’s memory to St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Avenue, Newark, DE 19711, or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

Florrie was my cousin, whom I always idolized. She was beautiful, popular, and a cheerleader! I wanted to be just like her. Do you remember the story about when she fell asleep under a sun lamp? Oh gosh! That was awful, but she recovered as good as new. I went to her wedding, when I was about 15, with my parents, and to my amazement, one of the groomsmen, Mr. Swizzler, was my high school French teacher! We lived near Trenton, NJ, so that was the last thing I would have expected, but kind of special, too. Your Mom & Dad were a beautiful couple. I wish we could have have been in contact more frequently, but life and geography kind of got in the way. I am so sorry for your loss. Losing your Mom is one of life’s most difficult times. I am so sorry that we will not be able to attend the services, as much as I would love to. I just want you to know that I have thought of her very often through the years, and she is loved and treasured.
