Mario D. Benedetto, age 70, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Born in Souderton, PA, on June 22, 1953, he was the son of the late Nicholas D. and Phyllis M. (Jones) Benedetto. Mario worked as an over the road truck driver for George Transfer. He later became the proprietor of Wrangle Hill Auto Auction.

An avid sports fan, Mario loved to cheer on his favorite Philadelphia teams, the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, and Union. He also enjoyed his football Sunday’s watching the Minnesota Vikings. In his younger years, Mario loved to play softball, establishing the Wrangle Hill Softball Team.

Mario is survived by his loving wife of over 49 years, Carolyn S. (Johnson) Benedetto; children, Christina Woodland (Paul) and their children, Avery, Landon, Cora, Paige, and Piper; Anthony Benedetto (Kati) and children, Alissa and Tanner; and Vincent Benedetto; aunt, Judy Johnson; canine companions, Jaxon and Sophia; and feline companions, Batman and Keanu.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. All attending are encouraged to dress casually.

  • Mario always went out out of his way to make me feel like family. He always had a funny story and was the light in the room. Pool parties won’t be the same without him and I know myself and family will greatly miss him. Very sorry to all the Benedetto’s for your loss.

  • Carolyn and family, I was heart broken to hear of Mario’s passing. He was such a fun, cool guy. We didn’t see him much but when we did we knew we were in for a good time. He will be missed. I know what your going through and wish I could be there to give you all hugs and support. Know that we are thinking of you and if you need anything just let me know.
