Joanne Lackford

Joanne Lackford, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Wilmington, DE on October 22, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Harvey L. and Madelon M. (Dill) Newton. Joanne graduated from Newark High School in 1957. She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and retired after several years of service. In her spare time, Joanne enjoyed going to the beach and shopping trips with her daughter, Melissa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lackford, Sr. Joanne is survived by her son, James Lackford, Jr.; daughter, Melissa Lackford; sisters, Betty Moore and Doris Purnell (Jerry); brother, Harvey L. Newton, Jr (Joanne); and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 11:30 am on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
