Alan L. Glazar
July 2, 1950 - June 22, 2024
Alan L. Glazar, age 73, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Born in West Chester, PA on July 2, 1950, he was a son of the late David H. and Mary (Caplan) Glazar. Alan joined the Marine Corps at age 17. Wounded in Vietnam, the Marine Corps trained him in heating and cooling where he worked for the remainder of his service. While he didn’t enjoy working on HVAC systems, it exposed him to mechanical skills and a field where he was involved in inspections, repairs, quality control, and maintenance.
After leaving the military, he became a janitor for a company that distributed cleaning supplies. His responsibilities quickly expanded from sweeping floors to making coffee, adding up invoices, and calculating daily profits. One day the owner said, “Kid, I want you to go out and sell.” That day Alan discovered his calling—helping customers.
And boy was he good at it. The competition soon noticed and another company grabbed him. Throughout his time at the company, Alan rose to fill the shoes of general manager, purchasing manager, and sales manager before eventually running the company as the right hand for the owner. In 1982, Alan founded Action Paper & Chemical Co, a company founded with the mindset of a salesman on the street with a simple guarantee: 100% Customer satisfACTION!
Alan had a thirst for knowledge and was passionate about learning how to improve things. He was a selfless and generous man who helped many in need. More than anything else, his family meant the most to Alan.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his siblings, Gail Glazar and Zane Glazar. He is survived by his children, Aaron D. Glazar (Kim) and Andrea F. Dippold (Wayne); former spouse, Carole Ann Glazar; grandchildren, Zane (Bianca), Brittany (Chad), Dylan, Morgan, Matthew (Nikki), Tori, Nathan, and Ava; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Knox, and Logan; siblings, Jerry Glazar, Dennis Glazar, Gary Glazar, Brian Glazar, Michael Glazar, and Michele Dietz (John); nieces and nephew, Gail (Jason), Ashley (Buddy), and Jonathan; and great-nephews, Body and Crosby.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:30 pm until 4 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 4 pm. Inurnment will be held privately in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan’s memory to Stop Soldier Suicide, P.O. Box 110605 Durham, NC 27709 or online by clicking here.

To Allans wonderful children, the beautiful grandsons and granddaughters ,with new additions of three great grandsons and by best friend Carole Ann. I am so sorry for your loss. He will be missed by so many, we all loved him and respected him for all he did for everyone. He married my best friend, we all got married around the same time, raised kids together, all of our guys played baseball together, what great times we have had. Our crazy trips to the mountains, all of us such fun. I am sure we will meet again someday. Look up my mom and dad when you get to that other side they would love to see you. Thank you for your service protecting our country too!

As a young kid coming out of college, I had the great fortune to join Action and support Alan. He gave me my professional start and I am eternally grateful for that. He mentored me and trusted me to grow in the company he built. As years passed after he retired, I always enjoyed when he would come into the office to chat. You are a great man, Alan Glazar. You will be missed and always remembered.

Alan, was truly one of a kind he hired me and I spent 17 wonderful years at Action. He may have been tough at times, but he was very fair and he had a heart of gold. My heart goes out to Aaron, Andrea all of the family. I wish you strength to go through this incredible loss. I will always remember Alan with fond memories.

I knew Alan as a boy; our grandmothers were sisters and so we were cousins. I remember spending fun-filled days in Alan’s parent’s swimming pool with his gang of siblings – so many, that with the exception of a few, I could never keep all of their names straight. I was pals with his brother, Jerry, and I remember Alan’s mom as an extraordinarily sweet person. I’m sorry to say I drifted apart from the Glazar family and my cousins when I moved away from Wilmington and never got to know Alan as an adult; from what I’ve read about him, I’m proud of him for his accomplishments and happy that his family had the benefit of Alan’s love and presence through the years. God Bless him and may Alan rest in peace. Danny Stat
