Alice J. Hirst

Mrs. Alice J. Hirst, age 80, of Landenberg, PA, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Hirst was born in Wilmington on April 10, 1931, daughter of the late Ralph S. Johnston and Alice Angerstein Johnston. She was a graduate of Wilmington Friends High School and would go on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1953.
A talented homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Hirst devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. In her leisure hours, she greatly enjoyed gardening, sewing, and watching birds and other wildlife around her home. She especially delighted in spending summers with her family in Avalon, NJ.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Harvey L. Hirst, Jr.; son, Harvey Hirst III (Traci) of Redding, CT; daughter, Martha Hirst Schiebel (George) of Stafford, VA; and grandchildren, Timothy Hirst, Trevor Hirst, Andrew Schiebel and Carolyne Schiebel.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington, DE.
