Ann D. “Nancy” Ferrara
July 18, 1938 - April 2, 2025
Ann D. “Nancy” Ferrara, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Born in Media, PA, on July 18, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Moore) Darlington. Nancy graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and made her career as a registered nurse. During her career she worked at St. Francis Hospital, Crozier Hospital, Little Sisters of the Poor and several other nursing homes in the area.
Nancy was a giving person who enjoyed helping others. Equipped with her nurse’s instinct, upon retirement, she spent countless hours volunteering at Christiana Hospital, Union Hospital, and a nursing home in Elkton, MD. Deep in her faith, she was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish. Nancy enjoyed reading, flowers and bird life, and winter trips to warm, sunny Florida.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Darlington. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Samuel J. Ferrara, Jr.; children, Steven Ferrara (Charlotte), Lisa Thurman (David), and David Ferrara; siblings, Barbara Keppler, Patricia Morrison, and Christine Weaver; grandchildren, Kelli, Nicole, Shannon, Zachary, Melissa, and John; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online by clicking here.
