Anthony M. “Tony” Barone

Anthony M. (Tony) Barone, age 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen (Petangelo) Barone. Following graduation from Wilmington High School in 1949, Tony attended Goldey Beacom. He was very proud to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company and in later years was a Host at Delaware Park, where he met and maintained several dear friendships.

Tony was a member of the American Legion Stahl Post and very active with Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church. He was an usher, Catechism teacher and served as a member and President of the Leisure Club. Tony enjoyed traveling with his wife Jean, going to Delaware Park and loved spending time with his family. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend to many.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia (McDermott); daughter, Deborah Barone; and son-in-law, Dino DeLeo. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean (Leith) Barone; children, Michael Barone of Newark, John Barone of Newark, Joseph Barone of Wilmington, Patricia DeLeo of New Castle, Barbara Marshall (Tom) of Hockessin and James Barone of New Castle; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family would like to express special appreciation to Judith Leith for her loving support and assistance during this difficult time.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 North DuPont Blvd, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.
