Antoinette M. Paglia - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Antoinette M. Paglia

October 13, 1919 - January 2, 2018

Antoinette M. Anna Paglia, age 98, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 13, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Cataldo and Maria (Virga) Mantegna.  Anna was a seamstress as a young woman, and then a devoted housewife during her 63 years of marriage.  She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and, with her husband, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.   Anna also enjoyed many years of activities with the OLF Leisure Club and the Weston Senior Center in New Castle.

She believed in a loving God and the power of prayer.  Anna understood the peace found in any forgiveness and the joy in family life.  She was strong-willed, good-hearted and quietly intuitive.  We will remember her unconditional love and kindness to family, friends and neighbors.  Anna loved music and had a beautiful singing voice.  She was a wonderful cook and loved family gatherings, gardening, bingo, parties and laughter!  Anna adored her grandsons and her great grandchildren.  She was our very loving matriarch.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis; brothers, Cataldo, Samuel and Vincent; and sisters, Seraphine, Susanna and Josephine.  She is survived by her daughters; Maryann Loeb (Bill) and Frances Paglia; grandsons, Kristofer (Erin Essex) and Matthew (Kelly) Loeb; great grandchildren, Leo and Sybil Loeb; nieces, Susan Paglia and Grace Delahee; as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews.

We are grateful to those who helped us in many ways over these last years.  Thank you Evelyn Kern, Kathy Crump, Susan Paglia, Paul Collins, Jim LeNoir, Patricia Downes, Barbara Moore; Carey Sambogna, Megan Shulman and Emma Phibbs of Fox Rehab and Audrey Collins NP, Tawana Wilson and Paula Gallimore of Seasons Hospice.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral  Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway,  New Castle, DE on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 9 am until 10 am.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE at 10:30 am. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.

Donations in Anna’s memory can be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Our Lady of Fatima, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Dear Fran and Family,
My deepest condolences to you and your family in the passing of your dear Mother, a beautiful and loving person. What a wonderful “reunion” in Heaven it must have been for her and my mother, Agnes. They were good friends and had such a great time together at Howard Weston Senior Center for many, many years. Your Mother would always have a smile on her face and always was kind and willing to do anything for anyone. She and your family will be in my prayers. Rest in Peace, Ann.
