Mr. Arthur R. Carello, age 91, a resident of Minquadale in New Castle, DE, for over 70 years, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Carello was born in Wilmington on June 18, 1921, son of the late Frank J. Carello, Sr. and Angeline Verderoma Carello. He proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps (Air Force) during World War II. In civilian life, he made his career as the very first administrator of the Justice of the Peace court system in Delaware, a position he was honored to hold from 1966 until his retirement in 1982.
Active in his community and a devout Catholic, Mr. Carello was a Life Member (since 1947) of the Minquadale Fire Company, where he held the esteemed title of “Chief Emeritus” after having served as chief of the company for seven years and assistant chief for three years. He was also a member of Hall-Burke VFW Post #5447 and Joseph B. Stahl American Legion Post #30. He supported the Democratic Party throughout his life and served on a number of local political committees.
In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed going fishing, often using the lures he designed and crafted himself.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carello was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris M. Orth Carello, daughter, Barbara L. Berry, and grandson, G. Robert Tulowitzki, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Marie “Chickee” Tulowitzki of Minquadale; granddaughters, Barbara Hojnicki and husband Michael, and Cheri Symanski; and great grandchildren, Morgan Hojnicki, Anthony Hojnicki, Nicholas Tulowitzki and Lexi Tulowitzki and their mother, Kristi, Grace Symanski, and Taylor Purner. He had three brothers and three sisters, Dominic Carello, Frank Carello, Jr., Ralph Carello, Sr., Ann Carello, Jean Baker, and Marie Warrington.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.
