Barry Hester Scott, fondly known to many as Hester, age 62, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, February 3, 2013. Born in Philadelphia on August 7, 1950, he was the son of the late Mary and William Hester Scott.
Hester attended Philadelphia schools graduating from Overbrook High School and continued his education at Shaw College in North Carolina, Delaware State University, and Lincoln University. He started his career working with youth with behavioral health challenges and continued to offer his guidance to adults working in Corrections and Probation and Parole, retiring in 2001 after 24 years of service with the State of Delaware. Never a man to be without a job, he later worked at various positions before finding his dream job in 2007 with the City of Wilmington Parking Enforcement Unit, where he was fondly known by his friends as OG–the Old Guy always ready to offer advice and parking tips.
Hester enjoyed smooth jazz, spending time with friends and looked forward to a good card game with lively quips and conversation. He was always willing to offer his insight and sage advice enjoying the camaraderie of friends. His friendship was truly a gift and he will be missed immensely. He was one of the “good people.”
He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Ronald Scott; and sister-in-law, Linda Nicholson Larkin. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol Taylor Scott; brother, William Scott and his wife Judia; sister, Sharlene Bishop and her husband Henry; sister-in-law, Nancy Watrud and her husband James; brother-in-law, David Taylor and his wife Lauri; sister-in-law, Sarah Scott; brother-in-law, Michael Larkin; his mother and father-in-law, Jean and George Taylor; and an extended family of many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 1 pm at the Episcopal Church of Ss. Andrew and Matthew, 719 N. Shipley Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Episcopal Church of Ss. Andrew and Matthew Capital Campaign at the above address.
