Barbara Ann Mooney, age 51 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018.

Born in Wilmington, DE on May 26, 1967, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Doris (Smith) Engle.  Barbara graduated from Hodgson HS where she earned her cosmetology degree.  She owned and operated her own salon, Premiere Hair Designs for many years.  She then went to work for Twisted Hair Designs and later became a caregiver for many years, a job she loved dearly.

Barbara was a thrill seeker who loved to travel, shop, ski and go to the beach.  Above all, she was a loving sister, aunt and godmother who possessed a heart of gold.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Austin Buchanan.  She is survived by her siblings, Diane Reedy, James Ackinson, Jennifer Sampson, Mary Foust, Nancy Zellers, Jeannette Neff and Harold Engle; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; former husband and best friend, David Mooney; and her beloved dog, Jada.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 1 pm.  Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • Barb was the most beautiful, caring soul! Her compassion for people and animals is unsurpassed. Barb use to cut my hair, and I remember her “talking up a storm” one time, and she inadvertently shaved off half my eyebrow! She was mortified but i couldn’t stop laughing!
