I am not sure when I first met Ben and June Mullins, but it was in the early sixties. Ben, who collaborated with Dad, was often involved in gently correcting my equipment operating skills. From my first interaction with June, she was always a person who cared about her family and worked extremely hard to help support them.
I was very pleased to know June once I started college because of her part time job working at a sub shop on Main Street in Newark, Delaware. I shared a suite on the fourth floor of one of the vintage college dorms with three other students. Because June always seemed to provide me with larger sandwiches than what my roommates got when they placed the order – this was long enough ago that the placing of an order was walking into the shop and getting the attention of a clerk – that I was tasked with getting our evening or weekend treats.
Once I graduated from Law school I was employed by the Department of Justice, but when Ben was buying a home he and Dad decided that they didn’t want to add to the cost (Afterall the home cost Twenty Thousand Dollars) by paying legal fees and I was encouraged to conduct the settlement. This was my first real estate transaction and helped me get to know early on about an area of the law that became important to my practice.
Over the years when issues occurred that impacted June’s family, she always wanted to make sure I was helping and to give me her thoughts. June’s goal from the day I met her until the day she passed was always to benefit her family.
June will be missed.
