Bonifacia L. Yap, MD

Bonifacia L. Yap, MD, age 83, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Smyrna, DE, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
Dr. Yap was born in Cebu City, Philippines, on May 14, 1929, daughter of the late Tian Lay Yap and Restituta Librado. A gifted physician, she was employed with the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for 12 years and, later, the Delaware Psychiatric Center for 13 years. She retired in 2001 after a 46-year medical career.
Dr. Yap was a devout Catholic throughout her life and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Ascension Yap-Ablaza. She is survived by her cousin, Carolina E. Nazareno, niece, Marife Palma-Gil, niece, Jojo P. Cole, grandniece, Shelby P. Cole, niece, Imelda Y. Pinugu, and grandniece, Sheryl Y. Pinugu.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, May 28th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A second visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 am to 10 am on Tuesday, May 29th, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Entombment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
