Bonnie H. Johnson, age 86, of Delaware City, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Copper Hill, VA on April 19, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Eldridge and Ethel Carr. She made her career as a licensed practical nurse with the Delaware State Hospital, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service to her patients.

An excellent quilter and seamstress, Mrs. Johnson handmade a number of quilts for the Ronald McDonald House and also crafted beautiful prom, wedding and bridesmaids dresses for family and close friends. She gave of her time and talents as a volunteer at Christiana Hospital and in Delaware City during election season. In her leisure time, Mrs. Johnson enjoyed travelling. Mom Mom, as she was fondly known by the residents of Delaware City, will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph O. Johnson; sons, Charles and Donald Johnson; brothers, Jack and Roy Carr; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Johnson; and dear friend, Ruth Moore. She is survived by her children, Thomas R. Johnson (Catherine), Carolyn J. Cole (Lee), Robert B. Johnson (Peggy Miller), Louise J. Brenner and Donna Carr, all of Delaware City; sisters, June Carr and Bernice Horn, both to Tazewell, VA; brother, Larry Carr (Peggy) of Cedar Bluff, VA; sisters-in-law, Deborah Carr of Smyrna and Esther Carr of Tazewell, VA; daughter-in-law, Mae Johnson of Port Penn; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Friday afternoon, December 23, 2016 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where a funeral service will be held at 2 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

  • I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the family! I will always remember your mom at all the cookouts and holidays I came to with Mae and Donny. She had the greatest laugh and smile! She was the glue of your wonderful family and I remember your Dad and her always happy and all you kids always around them! She always made it good for all of her children and grandchildren and anybody who showed up! I remember one 4th of July and I came with Mae and Donny and you all were shooting fire cracker rockets at each other and your Mom and Dad both were up on the porch just watching you all having fun! I thought that was the greatest thing and I always knew how much you loved your Mom and she loved you all! Love is what your Mom gave to each and everyone of her children and that never stops! Nothing can stop the love of a Mother and her family keep your heart filled with the love she gave you all because love is the greatest gift! If you need anything I am here for you all, with sympathy Wanda, Dana, Joe.
