Mr. Boyd Ulrich, age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Mr. Ulrich was born in Hazleton, PA, on March 9, 1929, son of the late Franc O. Ulrich and Grace Mulahey Ulrich. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the US Army. In civilian life, he made his career as a master millwright, working for ICI in New Castle, where he retired as a foreman in 1986 after over 30 years of service.
A devout Christian throughout his life, Mr. Ulrich was a charter member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newark. He greatly enjoyed traveling and especially looked forward to beach vacations with his wife and family. He was also a loyal fan of the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
Mr. Ulrich was a truly gifted woodworker; he designed and created many beautiful items over the years. Widely admired for his wonderful ability to fix anything, family and friends frequently sought his advice on difficult home repair problems. No project was too big for him to solve and he always relished the challenge!
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Agnes Carrigan Ulrich; daughter, Nancy Reid Ulrich (William Hutchins) of Brookline, MA; son, James Boyd Ulrich (Susan) of Newark; grandchildren, Melissa Marrocco (Blake) of Phoenix, MD, Elizabeth Martin (Matthew) of Elkton, MD, and Tyler Ulrich of Elkton, MD; step grandchildren, Ryan Cowgill (Becky) and Katie Cowgill; great grandsons, Landon Marrocco and Brendan Marrocco; and step great grandchildren, Layla Theodore-Cowgill and Willow Cowgill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Sanner, and brother, John Ulrich.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, June 17th, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE, 19713, where visitation will begin at 11 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
