Brenda June Ireland

Born April 21, 1965

Brenda June Ireland (nee Hare), age 52, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Christiana Hospital with family members present.

Brenda was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 21, 1965. At a very young age, she acquired an affinity for drawing which she enjoyed through her adult years. She was a 1983 graduate of Glasgow High School and was proud to be a Dragon. She went on to attend the University of Delaware and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During this time, she was employed by Bit o’ Scotland Bakery in Newark where she ran the counter and used her creative talents while cake decorating. Ultimately she took a position at J C Penney, where she worked as a Visual Specialist with the responsibility of designing and creating store displays.

Brenda continued with her love of creating art, and in 1999, her drawings were included in the poetry anthology Terrains. Brenda married Redz Ireland in 1998, and the couple honeymooned in Nova Scotia where they both became very fond of the area.

She enjoyed the outdoors and spent time walking the trails of White Clay Creek with her dog, Mysti. She also enjoyed car and truck shows and the Rough and Tumble Museum in Lancaster County, PA. Her love for animals and nature was strongly represented by the many pets she had during her lifetime.
Her tastes in music were eclectic: the folk band Great Big Sea, the Bee Gees, Moody Blues, Santana, and Journey were among her favorites. Favorite genres included Celtic, Folk and Zydeco.

Brenda will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Redz Claude Ireland in 2015. Brenda is survived by her parents, Norman A Hare Jr. and June Hare of Newark; siblings, Lynn Allen (Ted) and Norman A. Hare III (Cynthia); and extended family including many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Her family also included her faithful feline companions, Muffy and Mona Lisa.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brenda’s memory may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Chrisiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
