Bruce Carl MacCord

Born: 4/2/1956
Died: 9/24/2012

Bruce Carl MacCord, age 56, of Wilmington, DE, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 24, 2012, after a lengthy battle with many medical issues.
Born in Reading, PA, on April 2, 1956, son of the late John M. MacCord and Joan Virginia Walker MacCord Barnes, Bruce was a 1974 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. From his youth, he was a very dedicated, energetic worker with lots of ambition. He started working at the age of ten delivering the News Journal on his bicycle. He was later employed in towing and oil, and in the banking, collections, and cleaning industries, but his great passion was bowling. A talented league bowler (including Junior, Junior Adult, and Adult) throughout his life, Bruce spent much of his professional career managing local bowling centers in New Castle County. He was especially popular at AMF Price Lanes at Prices Corner in Wilmington. Well known for his playful, flirtatious ways, he had many good female friends and was admired by all as a caring, loving, considerate person who befriended everyone.
Bruce’s life was complicated by many difficult medical conditions. By the age of 40, he was considered bedridden by his doctors. He was a resident of Arbors at New Castle for five years, before moving to Cadia Rehabilitation in Pike Creek, where he lived for the three years preceding his death. Even during his nursing home residence, Bruce always had a great passion for life. He remained happy and loving and enjoyed flirting and solving wordfind puzzles as much as ever.
A devoted brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and best friend, Bruce loved his family and his extended family unconditionally and, when he was able, always lent a helping hand to anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry MacCord, and a great nephew, Joseph Allan MacCord. He is survived by his brother, Ronald MacCord (Theresa Twaddell); niece, Dawn MacCord; nephew, Paul MacCord; great nephew, Jeffrey DeMarc; great niece, Katalina MacCord; special friend, Earlene Roche; former sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen MacCord and Karen MacCord; and many extended family members, including Marcia Klair, Rob Klair, Matthew Dillon, John Dillon, Jennifer Klair, Aaliyah Watson, Debbie Fields, and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 29, 2012, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 630 Churchmans Road, Ste. 202, Newark, DE 19702.
