Mr. Carmen J. Petrella, age 90, of Milton, DE, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011.
Mr. Petrella was a native of Philadelphia, PA, born on July 15, 1921, son of the late Antonio Petrella and Filomena Testa Petrella. A gifted mechanic, he was the owner and operator of Girard Alignment Service in the Fairmont section of Philadelphia for many years until his retirement. During his career, he was very well known as a hard worker, an honest businessman, and an excellent provider for his beloved family. Active in his community, he was a member and past president of the Fairmont Lions Club. He was an avid Phillies fan throughout his life.
After moving to Delaware, Mr. Petrella greatly enjoyed horseracing and gaming at Delaware Park and other local venues. A talented cook, he delighted in preparing his delicious meatball and sauce recipe, which was a special family favorite.
Mr. Petrella loved his family unconditionally and will be forever remembered for his kind and gentle nature. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella Plubell Petrella, daughter, Florence “Flossie” C. Cappelli, son, Gene P. Barwis, six brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his son, Carmen A. Petrella (Susan) of Red Lion, PA; son-in-law, Frank Cappelli (Mary) of Milton, DE; sister, Matilda Campagna of Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Petrella may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
