Carmen Lopez Lewis

Mrs. Carmen L. Lewis, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family, on Friday, March 9, 2012.
Carmen was born in the Philippines, on April 2, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Bridgetta Lopez. Prior to her retirement, she worked for many years as a secretary for the Wilmington Housing Authority.
Carmen was a devoted mother and grandmother, who could often be heard keeping her large brood in line – sometimes with great gusto, but always doing so with love and the best of intentions. In her leisure time, she enjoyed her garden and cats, completing crossword puzzles, and watching CNN.
The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Vitas Hospice, especially to nurses Susanne and Jenn, for all of the love and care shown to Carmen throughout her illness.
In addition to her parents, Carmen was preceded in death by 4 sisters, 4 brothers, and sons, John Fontana and George Lewis. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Taylor (George), David Lewis (Cheryl), Terrill Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Rose Nester (Bill), and Alice Williams (Steve); 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Paul R.C. Church, 209 Washington Street, Delaware City, DE. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Carmen’s name be sent to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
