Catherine A. Genery, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Born in Camden, NJ on April 28, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Grace V. (Streeter) Dillenschneider. Catherine worked as an Employee Relations Specialist for the U.S. Navy. She could often be found crocheting, watching movies or reading. Occasionally Catherine enjoyed relaxing with a blackberry brandy. Above all, she cherished spending holidays with her family and loved playing cards with her sisters.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Anne Lynch and Rose Anne Dillenschneider. She is survived by her children, Catherine M. “Cathy” Genery of Glendora, NJ, Walter J. “Jim” Genery, Jr. (Terry) of Camden, NJ, Joseph A. “Joe” Genery (Tish Henning) of Atco, NJ, Cynthia L. “Cindy” Doyle (Ted) of Newark, and Jeffrey M. “Jeff” Genery (Callie) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Sr. Grace Anne Dillenschneider of Syracuse, NY, Helen Anne Corre, and Patricia Anne Dillenschneider both of Glendora, NJ; grandchildren, Christina, H. Vaughn, Walter J. III, Carolyn, Crystal, Jessica, Shelby, Olivia, Jaseem, Davion, Sheila, Gabriella, and Roman; and great-grandchildren, Trinity and Jaxson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to Sisters of St. Francis, Neumann Communities, 225 Greenfield Parkway, Suite 208, Liverpool, NY 13088.
