Catherine Fay Harvey
Catherine Fay Harvey (nee Reed), age 80, recently of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, after a long illness.
Catherine was the daughter of the late Wyatt and Eulah Reed, one of eleven siblings in a large close family who were raised in Rock, WV. The family relocated to the Delaware area in the 1950s but maintained ties with home in West Virginia. She and her husband, Mike, enjoyed many, many social visits and happy occasions with sisters, brothers, and their families.
Catherine particularly relished her role as the grandmother of thirteen and great grandmother of seven children. She traveled far, wide, and often to spend time with her children, including Caribbean cruises, trips to Kentucky, Ohio, Utah, Colorado, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Oklahoma, Arizona, and even Barbados. She was always up for a game of cards and had a lifelong affinity for bingo, where she often won big.
She was generous with her time and resources. She helped out family and friends in need and gladly shared what she had. If she thought something would put a smile on someone’s face – money, cars, collectibles, clothing – she would give it.
Catherine leaves behind her husband, Arthur/Mike; daughters, Cynthia Phillips (Andrew Ward) and Barbara Phillips; sons, Joseph Phillips (Susan) and Brian Harvey (Betsy); siblings, EW Reed (Marie), Frankie Moore (Bill), Ruby Wilson (Jimmy), and Bernice Bryan and their families; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although the family grieves the loss of our fun-loving matriarch, we know she is at peace and happy to be reunited with her parents and siblings who have gone before her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a celebration of Catherine’s life will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

Catherine, EW and I surely miss your smiling face and I will definitely miss playing games with you, EW and Mike. We sure did have some good times at Coffee Run and enjoyed Mike cooking for us.
