Catherine J. Delcollo

Catherine J. Delcollo, affectionately known as Nana, age 98, of Greenville, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

Born in Wilmington, DE on November 2, 1919, she was a daughter of the late John and Theresa (Diskin) Cone.  Catherine attended Saint Paul’s School and graduated from Wilmington High in 1937.  She met her husband, Danny, at the age of 16 and they resided in Wilmington until they moved to New Castle with their family in 1952.  Catherine dedicated her life to her family as as loving homemaker, and after her husband passed in 1976, spent several years working at The Salvation Army.

As a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish since 1953, she was active in its Sodality and Leisure clubs, and served on numerous church committees.  Catherine enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and spending time with family and friends.  She will always be remembered for her quick wit and humor.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Delcollo Sr.; son, Daniel Delcollo Jr.; brother, John Cone; and sister, Theresa Jackson.  She is survived by her daughter, Catherine and son-in-law Eric Engberg (with whom she lived) of Greenville; grandchildren: Daniel Delcollo III (Terese) of Hockessin, Kevin Delcollo (Shana) of Newark, Eric Engberg of Washington D.C., Katie Engberg of Greenville, and Lisa Delcollo of Bear; four great grandchildren: Abby, Lexie, Dylan and Tyler Delcollo; and daughter-in-law, Renie Delcollo.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 North Dupont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will immediately follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.
