Charles J. “Charlie” O’Neill, age 88, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, October 26, 2018.

Born in Wilmington on August 29, 1930, he was a son of the late James and Barbara (Regenuer) O’Neill. Charlie served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He dedicated his career as a cableman for Delmarva Power & Light Company, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.

A devout Catholic, Charlie was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Parish. He was a die-hard Blue Hen football fan and a season ticket holder for many years. Charlie was a softball umpire and coached the DP & L softball teams.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Robert O’ Neill; grandson, Sam Montgomery; great granddaughter, Kathryn Gallagher; and siblings, Mildred Whiteside, Marie Wingate, Theresa Balascio and James O’Neill. A devoted husband, father, pop pop, brother, and uncle; he is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Kirkwood) O’Neill; children, Mary Ann Montgomery (Bob), Barbara Gallagher (Tuck), Donna Quinn (Larry), Chuck O’Neill (Rose), Kathy O’Neill (Pete), Lisa Holliday (Jim) and Mary Ann Bauman; sister, Elizabeth McCloskey; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Rd, New Castle, DE, 19720, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit R.C. Church, at the address listed above.
