Christopher Ryan Peters

Mr. Christopher Ryan Peters, known fondly as “Chris,” age 37, of Bear, DE, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Chris was born in Wilmington on May 29, 1974, and was a 1992 graduate of St. Mark’s High School, where he was a standout athlete on two state championship soccer teams. He would go on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from the University of Delaware in 1999.
Chris enjoyed a varied and interesting professional career. After training in the financial services industry in New York City, he was employed as a financial advisor with American Express and as a broker with Morgan Stanley. More recently, he had chosen to return to school to pursue a degree in psychology.
A truly gifted musician throughout his life, Chris may have been best known to his many fans as a founding member and drummer for the very popular local band, Chorduroy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Marie Altevogt Peters; stepson, Sam Michael Holquist; parents, Charles H. Peters and Marcy Beck Peters; mother-in-law, Diane Altevogt; father-in-law, Charles Altevogt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, October 17, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 300 Marrows Road, Newark, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Chris may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 455 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713; or to Kingswood U.M. Church, 300 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713.
