D. Paul Sanderson
August 17, 1950 - March 27, 2024
D. Paul Sanderson, age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Born in Wilmington, DE on August 17, 1950, he was a son of the late James R. and Margaret (Shaw) Sanderson. Paul had an exemplary career as a flight engineer, in the Delaware Air National Guard, rank CMSGT. He proudly served in The Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom and aided in Hurricane Andrew Relief efforts. Paul retired in 2008 after 39 courageous years of service with the 166th Airlift Wing.
Paul was an avid boater; he loved being on the water. Some of Paul’s fondest memories are ones he spent with his family on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. When he wasn’t on the water, he could be found at Susky River Grille with his Ravens Roost watching the football game. Without a doubt, Paul’s legacy will be one of a devoted husband and loving father.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Cathy Sanderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Kamermans; children, Jennifer Casalvera (Michael), Julie Pascoe (Jeff), David P. Sanderson, Jr. and Danielle Lawrence (Nathan); grandchildren, Caitlin, Kayla, Alexis, Corey, Marah, Brooke, Ava and Mac; and brothers, James R. Sanderson (Colleen) and Robert Sanderson.
The Sanderson family would like to extend a special thank you to AccentCare Hospice for their heartfelt care and compassion.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. A committal service will begin at 11 am on Monday, May 6, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
