Damon Ray Jones

Damon Ray Jones, known fondly as Ray, age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 19, 2016.
Born in Duplin County, NC on September 4, 1933, Ray was a son of the late DeLeon Jones and Willie Myrtle Miss Bill (Garner) Koonce. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Ray worked as an electrician with IBEW, Wilmington, NC for 20 years. A member of UAW Local No. 1183, Newark, he later worked at the Chrysler plant in Newark, retiring after over 20 years of dedicated service.
Ray was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 53 A.F.A.M in Port Deposit, MD. In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling with his family, listening to bluegrass music, and spending time with his friends at the New Castle Farmers Market.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Damon Bradley Jones and brother, Carroll Koonce. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mavis L. (Conner) Jones; children, Leon Ray Jones (Teresa) of Kinston, NC, Anthony Tony Jones of Port Deposit, Mitch Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Terri Sue Knight (Chris) of Newark; sister, Joyce Barwick of Kinston; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening, February 25, 2016, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Pl., Newark, DE 19711, where a visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 pm on Thursday evening. A committal service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday morning, February 26, 2016, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
