Mr. Daniel F. McAvaney III, age 63, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Mr. McAvaney was born in Wilmington on July 23, 1949. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps and would go on to make his career in the construction industry, working as a professional insulator with Union Local #42. He was also the former proprietor of three popular local pubs, Up The Creek, McAvaney’s Pub, and 2 Can Dan’s.
Mr. McAvaney was a Lifetime Member of Joseph B. Stahl Post #30 American Legion and of the Defiance Club. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking trips to Atlantic City. Most of all, he looked forward to spending time with his beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Logan Gott. He is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Lori Carter McAvaney; son, Daniel F. McAvaney IV of Dagsboro; daughter, Jennifer McAvaney of Florida; stepsons, Edwin J. Carter of New Castle and Justin R. Carter of South Carolina; father and stepmother, Daniel F. McAvaney II and Connie McAvaney of Wilmington; six brothers; five sisters; three grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 10th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
