Mr. Daniel J. Kirk, Sr., age 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 13, 1947, he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Kirk. Following graduation from Salesianum High School in 1966, Daniel served in the United States Army until 1969. Upon returning home, he then joined the family business, Kirk Plumbing and Heating Supply, where he was affectionately known by many as “Dan the Counter Man.” Daniel enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and playing with his many grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Kirk, Jr. Daniel is survived by his wife, Jane (Howard) Kirk; siblings, Richard Kirk and Leanore McMahon; children, Daniel Kirk, Jr., Michelle (Kirk) Nguyen; stepchildren, Donald Reyburn, Daniel Reyburn, Aaron Beres, John Fritts, and Rachael (Beres) Smith; and grandchildren, Stephan, Christopher, Danny, Taylor, Zachary, Madelyn, Andrew, Natalie, Hailey, Joshua, Lucas, Emerson, and Landon.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11am on Saturday morning, October 19th at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE 19711. Visitations for friends and family to pay their respects will be held at the funeral home, on Friday evening, October 18th from 6pm to 8pm and also on Saturday morning, after 10am. Interment will be private.
Daniel was a lover of American history and an avid Civil War collector. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in his name to assist in preserving Civil War battlefields to Civil War Trust, 1140 Professional Court, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
