Daniel Ryan

Mr. Daniel Ryan, age 48, of New Castle, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 22, 2012, with his wife at his side.
Dan was born in Upland, PA on November 24, 1963, and was employed as a financial controller with Mustang Engineering for 7 years, and most recently as an accountant by the State of Delaware, with the Department of Labor. Earlier, he worked for the Acme grocery chain for 20 years. He graduated from Wilmington University, summa cum laude and was a 1981 graduate of Salesianum High School.
Dan was a fan of many sports, both as a spectator and participant. He was an avid, competitive cyclist, a passionate snow skier, and enjoyed trekking in the US, Europe, and Asia. Dan belonged to the FSVS Cycling Club and raced for different teams. Dan also belonged to the Wilmington Ski Club, where he met his wife, Doris. They were married on September 23, 2006. Together, they enjoyed skiing with friends and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. Dan was also an active member of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Dan maintained an extremely positive outlook throughout his life and illness. He touched many lives and will be remembered dearly by friends and family as a gentle, kind man and a passionate cyclist.
Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Ryan, in 1994. He is survived by his loving wife of six years and best friend, Doris J. Ryan; parents, Charles and Lois Ryan; sister, Barbara Watson (Tom) of Canton, GA; brothers, Patrick Ryan (Carol) of Smyrna, DE and Charles Ryan of Newark, DE; parents-in-law, Jerry and Maria Korzeniwsky; brothers-in-law, Myron Korzeniwsky (Sharon) of Newark, DE, and Lewko Korzeniwsky (Terri) of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces and nephews, extended family, and many, many dear and supportive friends.
A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 800 Lea Boulevard, Wilmington. Family and friends may visit from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, September 25th, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, Wilmington Manor, New Castle. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
Doris would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Tim Dowling, Dan’s close friend and PCP, the Helen Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care, Visiting Nurses Association, The Cancer Support Community, Seasons Hospice, and Dan’s many wonderful friends in the cycling community.
