David R. Johnstone

November 21, 1946 - December 30, 2021

David R. Johnstone, age 75, of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021.

Born in Louisville, KY, on November 21, 1946, he was a son of the late Ross and Katherine (Hocke) Johnstone. David worked as a truck driver for Lankford Sysco for many years. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching his teams, the Eagles and the Phillies, play. David loved his “Pootsie Girl”, Gail, for 53 wonderful years. More than anything, he especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Spence. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria Gail (Barrett) Johnstone; daughters, Kimberly Johnstone, Kelly Spence (Robert), and Toni Moore; grandchildren, Robert Spence, Jr. (Kellie), Mallory Stevens (Garry), David Spence, II (Heidi), Kelsie Spence, Morgan Lewis, and Andrew Lewis; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Stevens, Brycen Spence, Gentry Spence, and Jack Stevens.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
