           Dewey L. Smallwood, Sr., age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on May 7, 1945 he was a son of the late Clyde and Matilda (Hoffman) Smallwood. Dewey worked as a bus driver for the Christiana School District. He loved driving the bus, seeing his students, and coworkers.

          In his spare time, Dewey enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, listening to music and woodworking. He was a devoted lifetime member of the Minquadale Fire Company.

          In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by his daughter, Doris Smallwood Hallet. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette (Walker) Smallwood; children, Tina Banning (David, Sr.) of New Castle, Lisa Cintron of Dover, Michelle Griffin (Richard) of Philadelphia, PA, and Philip Smallwood of Wilmington; step-children, Jeffrey Walker (Rene Krafchick) of Newark and Jennifer Walker of New York, NY; and 20 grandchildren.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dewey’s memory to Minquadale Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • He was like a father to me he always treat me just like I was his. He love the grand children and would go to the store a hundred times so they could bake there Christmas cookies every year. We will truly miss you. Gone to soon but will never be forgotten .
