Dominick D. Scarfuto, known fondly as “Danny,” age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 19, 1920, Mr. Scarfuto was the son of the late Dominick Scarfuto and Caroline D’Auria Scarfuto. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. In civilian life, he was employed as a professional chauffeur with the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (M.E.B.A.).
Mr. Scarfuto was a Third Degree member of St. Anthony Council #6134 Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn. Active in veterans organizations throughout his life, he was a member of the Frank J. Dombrowski VFW Post in Brooklyn and the American Legion Post in Newark.
Admired for his talents as a woodworker, Mr. Scarfuto excelled in all types of detailed handicrafts. He delighted especially in giving his most beautiful pieces as special gifts to family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Aniello Scarfuto of Cranford, NJ, Joseph Scarfuto of Brooklyn, NY, Gloria Serra of Malverne, L.I., NY, and Carmela Scarfuto of Newark, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday February 29th, and from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 1st, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, March 2nd, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Scarfuto may be made to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
