Doris Avery (Swift) Haug - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Doris Avery (Swift) Haug

Doris Avery (Swift) Haug, age 96, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She was constantly surrounded by her loving children, just the way she always wanted it!

Born in Marshallton, DE, in 1926, she was a daughter of the late Norman Wilbur and Mary Emma (Chambers) Swift. Doris graduated from Conrad High School and was proud to be the first in her family to do so.

Food and cooking were a passion of Doris’. She worked very hard at being the greatest mother of all! Doris had three, different grueling jobs in Delaware factories and finally retired from Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store. She was so fortunate to be able to travel and enjoyed it immensely. Doris was a member of Weston Senior Center and for years loved being a volunteer to read to pre-school children.

Doris was married to a wonderful man, John F. Haug, Sr., who passed away far too soon in 1994.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Lillian, Sarah, Norma, Dorothy, William, Robert, and Paula. She is survived by her children, Stephanie, Debbie, John, Jr. (JoAnn, who was thought of as a fourth daughter), and Wendy (Jimmy); grandchildren to whom she was known as “Greatmom,” Lisa (Rob), Danielle, Chris, Jacqueline, and Sydney (Eric); great-grands, Caroline (Luke), Robert, Lane, Brittany (Andrew), Noah, Luke, Lucian, Coral, Alyssa, and Scarlett Avery; her first great-great-grandchild, Roman, and soon to be second great-great-grandson; and many adoring nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Doris.

Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her friends and neighbors.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516,  or online by clicking here.
