Doris J. Pelkey
June 16, 1929 - February 4, 2022
Doris J. Pelkey, age 92, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022.
For many years, Doris was a hard working and very dedicated employee in the food service industry. For fun she loved to read, knit, play Bingo, and visit Delaware Park. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She made the best southern meals where the variety would have something for everyone. She always had things to give you, and wouldn’t let you walk away from a visit empty handed. She is loved dearly and will be truly missed.
Born in Whiteville, NC on June 16, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Fannie (Sasser) Best.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Pelkey, Sr.; daughter, Dee Marie Rudge; siblings, Leo Best, Kimble Best, Clyde Best, Wilbur Best, Virginia Burns, Lucille Cochran, Horace Best, Barbara Ann Sufner and Ray Best; and daughter-in-law, Judith Pelkey. She is survived by her son, George Larry Pelkey, Jr. of Lewes; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be held in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

To the Pelkey Family:
I was so sorry to hear of Ms. Doris’s passing. She was one of the most gracious individuals who made life so much more pleasant. It was certainly my pleasure to be able to care for her in her last and final days. I hope you can find some comfort in your many special memories (those memories she shared with me often). Sincerely, Jane
