Doris Marie Grebe
February 16, 1935 - November 3, 2022
Doris Marie Grebe, age 87, of Bear, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital with her family by her side on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
Born in Bronx, NY on February 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Angelina (Romani) Grebe. Doris and her family moved from New York to Delaware in 1947. After graduating from William Penn High School she worked in various roles throughout her life, including Hallmark and Hercules Federal Credit Union. Her appreciation of cars led the majority of her career to be spent as a bookkeeper and title clerk at car dealerships, including Traver’s Chevrolet, Van’s Chevrolet and NuCar, before retiring from Stapleford’s Chevrolet after 20 plus years of service.
Her interests were varied and ranged from being a member of a bowling team, to 30 years of ceramic painting, knitting and a love of cooking and cake decorating. She enjoyed going to the beach with friends but mostly she loved spending time with family. Every summer she could be found driving her John Deere tractor cutting grass or floating on the raft in her pool. She was known among the nieces and nephews for giving the most original presents and she was always up for participating in board games with each of them.
Doris was preceded in death by her younger brother Jim Grebe and is survived by her elder brother, Edwin Grebe and multiple generations of nieces and nephews
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will follow at 6:30 pm. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

I am so saddened to learn of Doris’s passing I stayed in touch with her after she retired from Staplefords. We had many long conversations & I visited her several times, she was such a sweet lady. I’m glad I got to know her better. I will miss our long chats. My deepest sympathies to her Family May you cherish all your fond loving memories of her as she loved you all dearly. I only wish is that she didn’t have to go through the terrible illness she had & fought with all she had to battle it. It’s a comfort now to know she is at peace now & resting peacefully. 🙏🙏❤️❤️ Connie

So very sorry for your loss. Doris was my mothers best friend, (Peggy Shelton). I loved Doris very much. She was so sweet and kind to me always especially after my moms passing. I can see them in Heaven doing ceramics. They were a great team.
