Dorothy A. Axelson, age 89, of Newark, DE, formerly of Wilmington, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
Mrs. Axelson was a native Delawarean, born in Wilmington on September 22, 1923, daughter of the late Antoni Kowalski and Mary Przybylski Kowalski. A talented and resourceful homemaker throughout her life, she was also in charge of the Sunday nursery program at Grace Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. She was very proud of the success of the nursery and lovingly cared for each of the children in the program as if they were her own.
Mrs. Axelson greatly missed her beloved husband of 56 years, Elmer C. Axelson, after his passing in 2006. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Axelson will be long remembered by the many people who loved her. She is survived by her children, Ronald Axelson and wife Cindy of Newark, Elmer Axelson and wife Roxanna of Landenberg, PA, Debbie Heffner and husband Bruce of Elizabethtown, PA, and Eric Axelson and wife Alice of Hartly; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held privately.
