Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Woodward

Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Woodward, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Dottie was born in Darby, PA on April 18, 1929. She was the wife of the late Francis “Woodie” Woodward with whom she shared 46 years of marriage.

Dottie became involved with Christiana High School where her son, Stephen, was attending and started to work for the then Newark School District in 1972 as a secretary. She loved all animals, working in the garden, and doing all kinds of puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie; first son, Dennis; and three siblings. She was proud and grateful for her loving son and two daughters, Stephen Woodward (Lynn), Donna Kennedy, and Monica Mousley (Douglas). She was also thankful for the love of her grandchildren, Dennis, Jonathan, Erin, Ryan, Mallory, James, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kennedy, Dalton, Jude, Liam, and Michael.

Dottie sends all of her love to Michael Kennedy, to ALL of her many co-workers with whom she has had the privilege of working with over the past 40 plus years, to her many friends, neighbors, and last but not least her cat, Midnight, whom she also loved dearly.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Rd, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery.

    When riding through the development last summer, I was so surprised to see her out raking the yard. She looked as beautiful as ever and I was so excited to stop and talk to her, after so many years. She couldn’t stop talking about Woodie and her family..she was so proud.
