Dorothy P. Craig
Born: 3/29/1932
Died: 7/7/2013
Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Perkins Craig, age 81, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Dottie was born in Wilmington on March 29, 1932, daughter of the late Lester W. Perkins and Isabel Coburn Perkins. She was a 1949 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School and shortly after began her career with the DuPont Company, where she remained until 1957. Dottie was married to David B. Craig, Jr. in September of 1956 and became a full-time homemaker in 1958.
Dottie had a superb talent for working with young people. She volunteered teaching teenage boys and girls at Immanuel Episcopal Church and, with her husband, continued to teach there for many years. She was also involved with Job’s Daughters, a youth organization for girls ages 10 to 20. Known affectionately as “Mom Dottie,” she was greatly respected and admired by the young people of these groups.
A compassionate and caring person throughout her life, Dottie had a true gift for empathy. She was always able to sense the pain of her many friends or anyone else in need of help and never failed to find a solution to their problems.
She will be dearly missed by David, her devoted husband of 56 years; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends who loved her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clifford Perkins.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, July 11th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 12th, at Mt. Salem United Methodist Church, 2629 W. 19th Street, Wilmington, 19806, where a second visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Salem United Methodist Church at the address above.
