Earl Jackson “Jack” Thomas, age 76, of Elsmere, DE, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021.

Born in Pennsylvania on May 29, 1944, he was a son of the late Ford A. and Lilian (Holden) Thomas, Sr. Jack worked for Chrysler and Fiat before making his career as a self-employed auto mechanic. He coached the Chichester Crusaders, a neighborhood football league, for 15 years. In his earlier years, Jack and Frances enjoyed bowling together.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Frances E. (Smith) Thomas. He is survived by his children, Jacqueline E. McArdle (Robert), William E. Thomas (Cyndi), Bonnie M. Rhoades, and Rebecca L. Thomas; siblings, Ford Thomas, Jr. (Geri), Shirley Coe, Carol Thomas, and Joyce Thomas; grandchildren, Lindsey (Nick), Melanie, Renee, and Bronwyn; and great grandchildren, Savannah, Shane, and Sawyer.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE. Face masks are required for all in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • I’m so sorry to hear about Uncle Jack. He was a great man. I will keep all his children and grandchildren in my prayers for comfort at this time. Can only imagine the reunion he is having with MomMom, Pop, Aunt Alice, Danny, and Douger right now. If there’s eggs in heaven, right now Douger is running him around to smack one on his head! Love all of you guys, wish I could make it up there. You guys will be in all my thoughts and prayers!

  • 53 years didn’t know Uncle Jack was Earl Jackson……….LOL I hope he left his volley ball rule book for us or should I say rule books because every year the rules changed……….and the out of bounds lines always seemed shorter on Jacks side and longer on Bub’s side too….LOL
    We’ll miss you Uncle Jack…….Jackie, Willy and Bonnie our thoughts and prayers with you guys……..

  • Jack was my big brother he was amazing big heart and fun loving sport oriented and took it very serious my thoughts and prayers to his kids grands and great grands he’ll be missed by everyone who knew him rip brother I’ll always love and miss you 😘

  • Have known Jack in the auto biz for 40 years, he was a good friend. Lost touch, unfortunately, so sorry he’s gone. Had so much fun at bars and at his shops. Loved by so many, will miss him.

  • So sorry for the passing of my Uncle Jack. Many fond memories with him and all my aunts, uncles and cousins!! I’ll always remember his big smile, jolly laugh and infinite competitive nature. One of the best times was the softball game at one of our last Thomas Family Reunions. Such fun memories of days long gone by. Gods speed to Jackie, Willie, Bonnie and family.
