Earl James Burnett, Sr., age 72, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, DE.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Burnett was born in Dover on February 4, 1942, and was the son of the late Earl H. Burnett and Eva Owens Burnett. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army Reserves and later in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Burnett made his career as an auto mechanic and worked for Union Park Pontiac in Wilmington for many years prior to his retirement. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, was an avid NASCAR fan and possessed a keen interest in classic automobiles.
Mr. Burnett is survived by his sons, Earl James Burnett, Jr. of Wilmington, David W. Burnett, Sr. of North East, MD and John M. Burnett of Newark; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.
Services and interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
