Eddie Zabani, age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Eddie was born in Israel on October 7, 1939, Zabani was the son of the late Naiem and Elizabeth Astragalus Zabaneh. He ran family owned businesses including D&R Deli on Maryland Avenue and the Ranch House on Concord Pike. In his early years, he worked as a welder for the Boeing Company and as a foreman at the Philadelphia Ship Yards. Eddie, known as Big Guy or Big Eddie to his family and friends, had the unique ability to talk with anyone and make them feel instantly at ease. He was a devoted family man who would often talk about how much he loved his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jamileh Zabaneh-Shehadeh and brother, Gabriel Zabaneh. He is survived by his wife, Sue Zabani; sons, Aehab Zabani (Tona) and Eddie Zabani; daughter, Irene Gonzalez (Sam); grandchildren, Salina, Jasmine, Asia and Zachary Zabani; and siblings, Sumaya Zabaneh-Sousou, Samir Zabaneh, Fayza Zabaneh-Siaga, Samira Zabaneh-Mekheil and Roudayna Zabaneh-Khoury.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday afternoon, August 29, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Port Penn, DE.
