Edward R. Schmidt

Edward R. Schmidt, known affectionately as “Mr. Ed”, age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012.
Born in Chester, PA on September 27, 1933, Ed was the son of the late Edward Schmidt and Evelyn Kosty Schmidt. He proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin, and was honorably discharged in 1957. Ed was employed as a maintenance mechanic with Sun Oil, retiring in 1997 after 26 years of service.
He was a member of many different organizations, including the Sun Honor Club, Weston Senior Center, St. John’s Lodge #2, the Delaware Consistory, and the Nur Temple. Ed greatly enjoyed the numerous friends he made through his active participation in these groups.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ann M. Lawler Schmidt; daughter, Debra A. Ryan, and husband, Jim of Abingdon, MD; son, Robert E. Schmidt, and wife, Gabby of Bear, DE; sister, Shirley McWilliams, and husband, Walker of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Michael and David Schmidt, Crystal Farren, and Michael and Caitlin Ryan; 1 great grandchild, Jalynn Farren; and many nieces and nephews.
A committal service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at The Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow in the adjacent cemetery.
