Eleanor C. Davis

Born: 3/17/1920
Died: 5/28/2013

Mrs. Eleanor C. Davis, known fondly as “Pat,” age 93, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Limestone Hills, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Foulk Manor South.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Davis was born in Wilmington on March 17, 1920, daughter of the late William C. Clark and Eleanor E. Short Clark. She attended Conrad High School and was proud to serve her country as a secretary at the Wilmington Airbase during World War II.
Mrs. Davis would go on to enjoy a diverse and interesting professional career. For 12 years, she was the manager of the former Town Shop in the Newark Shopping Center. She then worked for the Blood Bank of Delaware from 1969 until her retirement in 1982. A gifted salesperson with an excellent eye for quality, she had also been employed with Carl A. Doubet Jewelers and Chappell Jewelers for many years.
She was very fond of both dogs and cats and took fine care of her family’s many pets over the years. She also greatly enjoyed planting a beautiful flower garden around her home each year.
Mrs. Davis devoted her life to caring for her beloved family and taught them many important lessons about striving to be their best at all times. She believed wholeheartedly in doing everything to the very best of her ability–even down to her perfect handwriting which drew many compliments for its grace and precision. An elegant and impeccably stylish woman throughout her life, she was admired not only for her flawless taste, but for her great personal warmth and charm. She will be sadly missed by the many people who knew, esteemed, and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. James Davis (USA, Ret.), in 1968, and her longtime companion, Elmer “Lou” Lewis, in 2005. She is survived by her son, James C. Davis, and his significant other, Lisa A. Rydzefski, of Wilmington; and her brother, William G. Clark of Wilmington.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Foulk Manor South and to Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving and gentle care.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
