Eleanor Mae Nason Brown - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Eleanor Mae Nason Brown

August 3, 1933 - March 13, 2026

Eleanor Mae Nason Brown, aged 92, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 after a long period of declining health and mobility.

Born in Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick, Canada on August 3, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Malcolm Nason and Anna (Reed) Nason.  Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Gaius “Lee” Brown, Jr.; her brother, James “Jim” Nason; and, recently, her son, David “Dave” Silver.  She is survived by her daughter, Beth Silver; stepmother, Lucille Brown; sisters, Sandra (Pete) Marshall, Janet Nason, and Elaine Nason; daughter-in-law, Lori Silver; granddaughter, Jennifer Silver; grandson, Timothy Silver (Ashleigh); great grandsons, Andrew Pitas and Joseph “Joe” Silver; great granddaughters, Autumn Burner and Katherine “Kate” Silver; nieces, Julie (Dave) Hamblin, Tina Dixon McCauley, and Karen (John) McAdam; and great nieces and nephews.

With a high school education and an indomitable spirit, she emigrated from Canada to the United States and began working for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in Washington, D.C.  She rose to the level of section supervisor handling accounting and disbursement matters for the Bank’s many foreign missions before retirement.  She enjoyed quilting, reading and listening to opera and classical music.  A strong-willed and extremely independent woman, she was the matriarch of the family whose loss will be felt deeply.  While her final years were marked by functional decline, she never lost her sharp wit and deep love for her family.

The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the care team and caregivers who provided comfort and compassion during her final few years.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor’s memory to Doctors Without Borders, PO Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or online by clicking here.

3 Condolences for Eleanor Mae Nason Brown

  • Pete and I wish to share our heartfelt condolences on the loss of my beautiful sister, Eleanor, who was always there for all of us, and in our lives although some of us were far away. Employed for many years, still finding time for many phone calls and visits, throughly enjoyed getting back home to see family and friends. Never missed a birthday call, a chance to send a gift or a laugh about times gone by. We will all miss her and she will always be in our hearts.

  • Our deepest sympathies from the Clinch family, St. George. NB. We girls have many fond memories of Eleanor during our childhood days. After moving to the US Eleanor always visited our mum (Alice Clinch) when she came to St.George. Mum loved her visits.

  • My condolences to all of those who loved Eleanor. My aunt was generous, had a keen mind and a pointed wit that made me smile. She was made of strong stuff! I know her loss will be felt.
